It is pretty much an open secret that many teachers find professional development to often be lacking in both professionalism and opportunities for development, oftentimes being seen as relatively ‘incoherent and cobbled together’ (Wilson and Berne, 1999). This is certainly a concern for an organization like the FJCC, considering that it is devoted to providing quality professional development for civics educators in the Florida. We want our professional developments to be both relevant and engaging, teacher driven and content rich, pedagogically useful and immediately implementable. The question, of course, is how we do that.

So we would like to throw this out to you, dear friends. What, for you, do you want to get out of professional developments? What was your least favorite PD and why? What was your favorite PD and why? How can we avoid the pitfalls of the worst PD?
